Soft tissue injuries:
Soft tissue injuries refer to any injury that involves the soft tissues of the body. These can include internal injuries to your organs or even muscle damage. Most soft tissues injuries occur in the muscles but it is not uncommon to have injuries to the spleen, kidneys, liver, or even the heart. Because these internal injuries can be hard to detect, you need to undergo an exam from a qualified medical professional.
Head and Neck injuries:
Many injuries can occur to the head and neck from a car accident. Some of the more common types of head and neck injuries are described below.
Brain Injuries- Brain injuries are more common in side impact car accidents. Common brain injuries include concussions, headaches, seizures, dizziness, lack of concentration, and memory loss. Depression and anxiety disorders are also possible following a car accident.
Neck Injuries- Neck injuries can vary from whiplash to disc injuries. Whiplash involves injury to the soft tissues of the neck which includes the nerves, ligaments, and muscles. Whiplash often results in serious neck pain and can restrict head and neck movement and affecting head rotation and peripheral vision. In more severe cases, whiplash may require referrals to physical therapists, chiropractors, or rehabilitative therapists.
Temporalmandibular Joint (TMJ)- TMJ injuries occur in the jaw when joint and ligaments are damaged and can affect chewing, eating, and even speech.
Back injuries:
Back injuries include damage to discs in the neck and spine. These discs may bulge, slip, or rupture as the result of a car accident. Unfortunately, these injuries can often take time to develop symptoms and may not be properly diagnosed for months following an accident.
Extremities Injuries: Shoulder, Elbow, Hand, Hip, Knee, Ankle, Foot Injuries
